Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status with his folk-based pop songs many of them based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and eventually moved to Aspen. More than a few people took the road to Colorado due to Denver's famous songs for his home state. G. Brown the curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver was by far one of the most popular performers who embodies Colorado. Denver became the initial Hall of Fame inductee in the year 2011. Denver is a symbol of the state for people worldwide. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other end of the planet, one of New Zealand and you say "I'm originally from Colorado and the very first thing that comes they say is"Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short stint in small folk bands. Danoff was credited with Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the tune, however Denver recognized that the song could turn into a hit once the song was first heard by him. The song was recorded by the singer only a few days afterward after performing it to the awe-inspiring crowd on the streets of Washington D.C.
